For a long time, we have been welcoming students from all over the world to New Zealand, and we understand the challenges you might face – whether they are to do with language, study, work or student life. That's why we create a homely atmosphere, where you will be supported.

Making visitors like you feel welcome is part of our culture – the Māori concept of manaakitanga means making all visitors feel 'at home'.

Pre-arrival and visa information webinars

Once you are accepted into your programme, our webinars will help you prepare everything you need for your stay in New Zealand.

International orientation

This casual but informative event is for all new international students. It is your chance to explore the campuses, attend information sessions, have some fun and make friends before the semester begins.

AUSA Buddy Programme

Our Auckland University Students' Association (AUSA) can pair you up with a local buddy as you navigate your first month in New Zealand. Your buddy can help you adjust to the unique Kiwi culture and answer your questions as you settle in to your new home.

Being safe in Auckland

Auckland is one of the safest cities in the world, but just like in any big city, you still need to be able to look after yourself. We have some simple tips to help you.

Academic support

Te Kahu Tauira | Student and Scholarly Services (SaSS)

Te Kahu Tauira, meaning "the Student Cloak", reflects our commitment to supporting and guiding students throughout their university journey.


Our teams offer a wide range of services including workshops, learning resources and advice to help you succeed in your studies. Te Herenga Mātauranga Whānui, General Library and our specialist libraries offer extensive physical and online collections across all subjects taught at the University and more.


The Library has comfortable places to study, bookable training rooms, and easy access to computers, printing, scanning, and photocopying.

Student Hubs

For help with university life, Student Hubs are your go-to for advice and support. Whether you need assistance with enrolment, course planning, fees or visas our friendly team is here to help.


If you need technical support, the Student IT Hub at the City Campus can assist with WiFi connectivity, software, devices, and other technology-related queries.


Together, these services are designed to help you settle in, stay connected, and make the most of your time at the University.

English language for university study

The University offers free services to help you improve your English language skills while you study.

English Language Enrichment (ELE)

Improve your English and build confidence while studying. Join our Let’s Talk sessions to practise speaking with other students and locals, get support through writing workshops, and receive personalised advice from experienced language advisers.

Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment (DELNA)

DELNA is a free check of your academic English language skills. You will find out more about DELNA during your faculty orientation session.

Academic English Studies

Courses to develop your academic and general English skills are available in the Faculty of Arts and Education. There are several pathways offered and you can choose which suits you best depending on your current level of English.
